The Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society is based at Taylor Street Tram Depot on the Birkenhead Heritage Tramway. The line runs from Woodside Ferry terminal, via Shore Road, to the rear of the Old Colonial pub in Taylor Street. (Click here for map) Two Hong Kong built, Wirral Council owned, double deck enclosed trams run on the tramway, along with the MTPS-owned original Birkenhead No.20 dating from 1900 (right) (pic by M.Pendleton) The society provide volunteer drivers and a team of conductors to help run the tram service.

An earlier restoration, a Liverpool horse tram, no.43, is also on display at the depot, and a Birkenhead horse tram restored by the British Horse Tram Enthusiasts, can be found at Woodside Ferry Terminal. Our latest addition to the preserved fleet is Lisbon 730 (below right) which has only recently entered service. (pic by D Pendleton) Our latest project in hand is the restoration of Warrington no.2. In the queue for attention we now have Liverpool "baby grand" 245 on loan from Merseyside Museums.

As well as the trams, Taylor Street (above left) also houses a collection of restored local buses and the Guy Tower Wagon. In addition, items from the Baxter Collection of Cars can now be seen at Taylor St., and don't forget to take a look at the model railway layout while you are there. (pic by D.Butler)

Society representatives are always present at Liverpool LRTA meetings and Liverpool TLRS meetings, details available on request. Coach trips, Model Exhibitions, Open Days and other events are regularly held - quite a lot to interest prospective members.
