A visit from Fred the weather man.

Fred Talbot, Granada's best loved weather man, famous for his antics on Albert Dock's floating weather map paid a visit to Taylor Street recently. Whilst filming for Granada Reports, Fred took a spin around the block in his own 1950's MesserSchmitt three wheeler and also took time to view our own Tramway fleet too. Fred is no stranger to the Birkenhead Tramway, having visited us previously, during our time at Pacific Road.

Restoration Work continues on Warrington No.2

Throughout the year, work has continued to restore Warrington No.2. Below is a selection of photos showing the work in progress. See also the keystone from the Birkenhead Horse Tram depot in Palm Grove, Oxton (second row, left). The building was demolished recently but thankfully, the Society was given permission to salvage the Keystone from above the main entrance for preservation. Showing the inscription for the Birkenhead Tramway Company, the stone is now housed at the Taylor Street depot as part of the MTPS's archive collection.

MTPS representatives at Crich Museum's 50th anniversary celebrations

The Society was represented at the Tramway Museum Society's 50th Anniversary celebrations of their purchase of the Crich site, in May.

MTPS Secretary Rob Jones and Chairman Terry Martin were among the 150 specially invited guests for a nostalgic re-enactment of the momentous day in 1959 when Cardiff 131 became the first tram to arrive at the quarry site.
