LUPTS tour of the Birkenhead Tramway and Museum use 730 as a private hire on 28th April 2006

A report by Charles Roberts (LUPTS):

The MTPS was formed out of the Liverpool University Public Transport Society (LUPTS). Although that closed down as a student society in 1991, the name LUPTS is still used for reunion events run by former members. Every Mayday weekend, a series of events is organised from lunchtime on the Friday until Sunday afternoon. For the 2006 event, the weekend began at Taylor Street with a ride on Lisbon 730. When the car was being restored, LUPTS was approached to see if it would contribute to the cost of the destination blind, in return for having LUPTS TOUR included on it. The blind was ceremonially wound round through PRIVATE HIRE and MAYORAL CAR until LUPTS TOUR was displayed, and the car then did two return trips to Woodside with the party aboard. The group is seen here in the Friday afternoon sunshine, with Mike Mercer in charge. For a report on the whole 2006 LUPTS weekend, please go to: http://www.lupts.org.uk/2006review.htm

Hot News!

MTPS working-party member Jon Howard has sent us the latest update on 730 with two photographs taken last night, Thursday 27th October 2005.
He says, "the top half has received its final coat of white and yes, that is yellow primer waiting for the top coat! I believe that is being applied in in the next week or so." Thanks Jon.

LISBON 730

The latest addition to our collection arrived at Taylor St on 14th February 2004. This single-deck, four wheel car once roamed the streets of Lisbon in Portugal. As part of the restoration process, the wheels of 730 will have to be regauged to standard gauge in order to be able to run on the heritage tramway.
