It is intended that Wallasey 78 will make its inaugural run and be in service on Sunday 18th August 2002.

WALLASEY 78 PASSES INSPECTION!

HMRI after a final inspection of restored car 78, passed it for operation.

An elated Keith Carmichael from the Tramshed said "I'm over the moon".

Society Secretary Rob Jones said "we've been waiting nearly a year and had nearly given up hope but it's great news!"

Liverpool Car 245 has been given the go ahead (on 12.07.02) by NMGM for transport from the Museum Store in Bootle to the MTPS/ WBC museum and Tramsheds at Taylor St in Birkenhead.
"This succesful negotiation is the culmination of at least 4 years negotiations" said MTPS Secretary Rob Jones. "It's only phase 1 and leads to phase 2 - which is the Evaluation and Preparation of the Heritage Lottery Funding Bid".

In anticipation of this news Horse Car 43 has already been moved from the running lines, thus making space for another full length car. Committee member Keith Carmichael who got the move of the horse car started, said "I felt it in my water that something was about to happen". Another MTPS member reported that he had seen the car out of the end bay in Juniper st - obviously being checked by haulage firms as to what could and couldn't be done.

Bob Bowden

Bob Bowden, Driver and Mechanic at Birkenhead Trams had a stroke on Tuesday 11th June and is currently in Arrowe park Hospital, Birkenhead. We wish him well and will miss him at the tramsheds. We look forward to his return.

Spring News from the Museum

A meeting between MTPS, WBC and NMGM has agreed in principle that 245 will come to Taylor St. for evaluation of an accurate lottery grant, (less than £50000), to be submitted.

MTPS member Keith Carmichael has been taken on at the museum for the summer to work as a conductor. Keith is well experienced at this having worked for Crosville and Crich (see pic - right). He brings his own enthusiasm to the job showing customers around our exhibits with his own particular kind of humour.

The front of a Liverpool tram from Brian Martin's collection has been bequeathed to the museum and will go on display at Taylor St. courtesy of Mrs. Dot Martin.

Official Launch of Wallasey 78 CANCELLED!

Unfortunately, the official launch of Wallasey 78 this coming Sunday (17th March) will NOT take place, as the safety work required by the Inspectorate has not been completed in time.
M.T.P.S. apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused.

Official Launch of Wallasey 78

Subject to approval by H.M.Railway Inspectorate, it is intended to launch Wallasey 78 on Sunday 17th March 2002. This date marks the centenary of the opening of Wallasey's electric tramways.

It is hoped to have a similar ceremony to the one for Birkenhead 20 (with less rain, perhaps), so dig out the old 1902 gear and come along. (Edwardian clothing not essential!)
